Today’s students are consumers of learning and knowledge. Picture a teacher is reviewing a content standard, etc. via lecture… As a student, I would be thinking “well I can listen now, OR find a website with the same info, OR watch a YouTube video explaining it, OR Skype with a content expert I know… ”
Message: it’s no secret, that in today’s learning environments (which by the way have no limits – walls – rules – hours, etc) the word “teacher” might be better suited to transition to “facilitator” or “coach.”. A facilitator would be aware of the competition for the different methods and/or choices for learning and ADAPT and continue to be RELEVANT.
Go figure…. who knew that embracing and engaging, students as consumers, could/would be so important!
